It takes a 9-hour train journey to get to Sapa from Hanoi. The train caters to all kinds of travellers - those on a budget can purchase tickets of rail cars that Vietnam Rail operates, and those looking for comfort can opt for cars operated by private companies like Tulico, Ratraco. Livitran, Fansipan and Victoria Hotels.

To get tickets to the tourist cars you may need the services of a travel agent, whereas anyone can purchase tickets for the regular Vietnam Rail cars.

Sapa is a small town and you can go anywhere on foot. You are also not likely to get lost. You can equip yourself with a simple map in case you are doubtful.
Go to Sapa by Train
Sapa has no railway station, but it's about 40km from Lo Cai rail station and easily reached from there by tourist bus (US$2), jeep (US$4-5 per person) or hired motorbike.  There are both daytime and overnight sleeper trains between Hanoi & Lao Cai, a distance of 294 km.
